Just a little bit about Skip Gear & Graphix
|
Tony "Skip" Hines started painting bodies with regular paint cans back in the late 80's for himself and a few friends. When he returned to racing in 1997 after a 5 year hiatus, he resumed painting for some of the same friends, still with cans. Tony has been using an airbrush for the past 2-3 years and started painting for a few notable drivers in Region 5 in 1999. With the increase in demand for his work, Tony decided to invest in a vinyl cutter to speed things up a bit. The graphix end of this resulted from owning the cutter. Tony originally went under the business nickname "Skip Grip" because of a particularly effective traction compound he offered. The name Skip Gear & Graphix was adopted in early 2000. Now Tony paints and makes vinyl graphix for the vast majority of the 'big name' drivers in R.O.A.R. Region 5. Additionally, Skip Gear & Graphix has customers in more than 20 states nationwide and more than one international customer.
Tony prides himself on attention to detail. As far as painting goes, everything possible is done with precision cut vinyl masking. For example, bodies that are designed to be the same on both sides will be due to the use of the vinyl masking. Tony does not use liquid mask and therefore there are no score marks on the body that could be a potential weak spot. This should make your bodies last longer, as they will tend to break easier at the cut lines for those that use liquid mask or tape.
Skip Gear & Graphix "Gear" products come about mainly from a collaboration between Tony, Jesse Robbers, and Jason LaDow. All the products go through rigorous testing (and more than likely several prototypes) prior to release to ensure that only a quality product is sold.
PS. If you notice any small hairs in your paint, blame these guys!
Just kidding. All paint work is done in a specially prepared paint booth.
